First, let’s get this out of the way: The box says “cherry,” and the clock is exactly the same color as the mahogany table next to it. I like the color just fine, but someone should replace (or at least Photoshop) that picture.
Speaking of the box, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything packed better than this. The box is padded and reinforced to a fare-thee-well. I was so impressed by the box that, months later, I haven’t been able to throw it away.
As you probably know by now, the clock has to be assembled. This took one man about twenty minutes. Piece of cake.
The pendulum and “weights” are purely decorative, but they are made of light-weight (brass-plated?) metal and look surprisingly good. The so-light weights had a tendency to sway any time someone walked by, but I found that I was able to dismantle them and fill them with pennies. Instant stability.
The chimes (sounding on the hour) are a little funky, but they don’t sound so much electronic as slightly-out-of-tune-real. There’s a volume control, and I suggest turning it down for maximum comfort and verisimilitude.
For what it is (inexpensive wood solids and veneers), the cabinetry is surprisingly uniform and well-done, as is the finish. I could find no flaws at all, which amazed me.
As others have said, this is no $10,000 clock (although it does look an awful lot like Howard Miller’s very expensive “La Rochelle”; Google it and see). You could probably carry it under one arm in a pinch (okay, if you’re Gaston). And the design of the clock face is a little underwhelming. But as a whole it’s handsome and charming, and – btw – it keeps perfect time.

I love this clock. It is a perfect size for my new condo. I was relieved to see there was no visible red in the finish. It has lovely details to the case and is heavy enough to be sturdy though I did secure it to the wall and put a small but heavy cement planter ( with a lovely plant) in front of the base for extra weight.

This is a very well Built clock . Structure is fine. Color is not what the pictures show.. Its more Red than brown. And the Chime is NOT real what so ever. Sounds like a door chime from a antique store. Regardless it makes it instantly fake sounding and now discounts everything about the clock. HOWEVER If you are a DIY kind of person, This is a great clock to start with. I just ordered a RHYTHM Quartz Chiming Clock Movement module that will replace what is installed – (60$) Now it has Real sounding tube bell chimes.
Oh and we painted the clock and antiqued black– MUCH MUCH better!

In my opinion:
Pros:
*Packaging to protect item was excellent. (That’s where the quality stopped.)
*overall look is good
*Assembly was straight forward and simple.
Cons:
*Back panel laminate was bubbled
*Top hinge on door was bent (was probably bent in an attempt to align top of door)
*Top of door not aligned/ascew and not even to bottom of clock assembly
*Pedulum wiil not continue to swing as assembly is not mounted straight up/down
*Right pendulum stop was broken (again probaly in an attempt to keep pendulum working)
*following included instruction emailed problems to company who never responded.
Decided to keep clock as it was a Christmas present. Being handy I was able to repair most of the issues. I would not recommend this item as it appears quality control is non existant.

This is a nice grandfather clock! It keeps perfect time and it was easy to set up. Now that’s saying something because I’m not usually somebody that is good at assembling things out of a package. You will need both a Philips head and a flathead screwdriver to complete the assembly. I like the way it looks at the edge of my dining room and it really livens up the entire room quite a bit! Please know that this product takes both AA batteries as well as C batteries. The clock mechanism and the chimes use the AA batteries and the pendulum uses the C batteries. I do agree with other reviews on this site when they state that the chimes are kind of cheesy. If you’re looking for a clock with really classy Westminster chimes then this particular product is probably not for you but other than that I think it was a great buy for the price!

I bought this clock because of its size and the fact that it had a white face, which makes it easy to read from across the room. I was impressed with the way it was packaged, in fact it took me a good ten minutes to open it up. It was easy to assemble, but it was difficult to makes some of the parts fit. Still assembly was less that thirty minutes. As Simone mentioned batteries are difficult to place if you have big hands. Also the pendulum sometimes hits the side of the case, but all and all, looks expensive and is a good deal for the money.

The clock arrived ahead of schedule which was nice. The clocks veneer is not as most reviews state, the accurate color it states or looks in the photo display. Please amazon do something about this. thank you! NOW about the packaging. the 8 screws and bolts were thrown all around the inside of the carton, hunting and pecking for each last one of them. and also there was NO instruction booklet how to turn sound off etc. etc. so we are still figuring this out. and yes there is a FLAW in the pendulum it hits the side of the clock cabinet inside. You get what you pay for. It is cheaply made, and fits in nicely in a corner or nook of someones home….if you have the right spot for it. It was not classy the way it was packaged at all and I have never seen screws thrown around like that . Its like it was an afterthought in china. lol. hey we forgot the screws…throw them in. All in all, i gave it a 3 star rating. because you will not get a grandfather clock for less money offline in the ‘stores’ and online…this clock is the same price whether you purchase it from amazon or another site that sells the same ‘thing’. Anyone reading this , and owns the clock personally, could you tell me which battery to remove to stop the chime sounds at night. Again there was no booklet and no phone # to call to find this out. thank you very very much.
